Child's Education Planning

Give your child a promising future.

Why plan early

The best things come with the biggest price tags

As a parent, you dream of giving your child the best of everything: the best education, the best health, the best opportunities. The problem is that the best things carry the best price tags.

With high costs and tough competition, your child's education is one of the biggest goals you'll ever plan for. That's why it is so important to start saving early. Our education planner shows how much you need to save today to fund your child's education in the future.

Four simple steps

How to plan for your child's education

The cost of education is rising faster than inflation. College is expensive, but not impossible. With the right strategy, you can meet the challenge whether your child is in preschool or already in high school.

1

Fix your time frame

Children usually start graduation at around 18–19 and post-graduation at around 22. From your child's current age, work out how many years are left until you need the funds.

2

Estimate today's cost

Every parent has different dreams. Courses like medicine, an MBA or engineering are expensive. Start by working out what the course would cost if your child joined today.

3

Factor in inflation

Education costs rise every year. Estimate what the course will cost when your child actually goes to college. That is the amount you really need.

4

Plan your investments

Check whether you can reach the target at a realistic return after inflation, then choose between investing monthly or a lump sum, based on your knowledge and risk appetite. Avoid what you're not comfortable with. Equity has generally done better over 10+ years, though returns aren't guaranteed. The more years you have, the lower your monthly investment can be.
